Day School Classroom Related Training Format
Updated On: Mar 28, 2025

All apprentices travel to our campus in Casper, Wyoming for classroom-related training.  We provide a day school format where apprentices only come to Casper for 6 weeks of school per academic year. This format has been a proven method to help apprentices focus during the week of class, network with fellow apprentices from around the State and improve curriculum retention.

WYOJATC housing is provided free of charge to the out-of-town apprentices.  We provide two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments with a full kitchen, twin XL-beds and internet.  Apprentices bring their own food, bedding and toiletries.

Classes start at 1:00 p.m. on Monday and the first part of the week is utilized to review homework and administer final exam testing.  The remainder of the week is utilized for hands-on lab exercises and introduction of new courses to be given as homework.  The week concludes on Friday afternoon to allow for apprentices to travel home. Most apprentices will return to work on the Monday immediately after class to continue obtaining their 8,000 hours of on-the-job-training (OJT) and work on homework to complete prior to coming on campus again in about five to seven weeks.

Apprentices do not get paid by their contractor for the week of class.  However, because we are a Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program, the apprentices are eligible to file for Apprenticeship Training Benefits through the Wyoming Unemployment Insurance Division.  If all eligibility requirements are met, the apprentice will receive benefits to help offset not getting a paycheck for the class week.  Their electrical contractor is not penalized for the apprentice filing for these benefits.
